El Nino plays a potluck of musical styles: roots, reggae, traditional west african, clean hip-hop, indie rock, ska, and space-rock. Much of the music he collects and shares is obscure music that might not otherwise receive airplay. A rebel at heart, El Nino also has a deep love for tradional music of many cultures.
An avid drummer and percussionist, El Nino has studied west african and tahitian drumming. He participates in local drum circles. For El Nino, drumming is a way of expressing his spiritual side: "When we drummers get together and play, the shared goal is that we can all spiritually connect through drum touch."
Among his other hobbies, El Nino is a rogue artist and illustrator with a love of comic and animation art. Blessed (or cursed) with a voracious appetite, he loves to eat good food, especially Phillipino, BBQ and sushi. He is currently in training to challenge Vallejo-born champion eater Joey Chestnut to a lumpia eating competition.
